my latest track, maybe, further explores more cinematic songwriting and production, albeit within the bounds of my rather limited resources (…”limited within bounds” — it seems i can’t escape such imprisonment at every turn!) / hopefully some day i can record these tracks proper (Dark Matter, Open Water, Prison Paradise, Maybe, and the one that’s likely up next: Keyless) with quality gear and real strings / maybe. some day / that said, i’m very happy with how this track came together / i’ve been struggling with the subject matter for over two years now, which is ridiculous — it needs — needs — to be burried / hopefully getting this out there will do the trick…although perhaps i should have sent this letter instead_

i just published a new song, “prison paradise,” as well as its accompanying video // this song just fell out into the air with very little coaxing / i felt i was able to capture what i’m feeling quite well in words, music, and even in video (not my strong suit) // i’ve been struggling lately, trying to find solid ground in a desolate, rather muted existence over the past few months — all the while, being set among a place of such beauty and happiness: my home in portland, oregon // alas, i’m captive to unforgiving forces of unemployment, interpersonal unresponsiveness, boredom, and (i’m reluctant to admit) loneliness // it’s quite a juxtaposition! thankfully, i have my guitar and modest technology for document // i hope you enjoy!

i just finished a new demo track, “open water” / i’ve been deep in the writing and recording mood again lately, especially with my newly found, albeit uninvited unemployment / but the rains are here in portland with command, the leaves are falling, and i’ve got plenty of wine on hand / so be it! time to write and record some new music and let this inner anxiety fall out among this season of detritus // “open water” is a little different for me, as it is restrained with no unsuspecting chords or key changes / instead i explored a linear songwriting technique with no real verse or chorus, so there is no repeat in the tune / plus i gave some self-to-self vocal harmonies a go for the first time / i’m pretty happy with the final result and like all these “demos” i put up here, perhaps someday it’ll have a chance to be properly recorded in a professional studio / but for now, it’s a simple reflection of my home “studio” with all the character of a cheap microphone and the NW portland streets below // enjoy!

the first video component from the latest release, [live with coffee and wine in an apartment], is now posted HERE // more videos from these sessions to come_

our analog technology [thumby]

[live with coffee and wine in an apartment] is finished and ready to share!

the live-lo-Fi project is finished and ready for your consumption / i could say more, but the description i wrote on the bandcamp page says it best / click HERE for the FREE download / i will only mention here that this recording session was the most honest embrace of my music i’ve done – there was no expectation and no pretension – just the songs (and wine or coffee) when the mood struck / i just hope to share what i’ve recorded and i hope it connects with you in some way

i’ll be posting some videos from the sessions in coming weeks/months, so if you’re interested check back occasionally // oh, and i’ll be playing an acoustic set at my beloved M Bar in NW Portland on April 24th / come say hello if you so wish / i’d like that_

new music project in the works for early 2016

i’ve decided to record and release a new collection of songs / they’ll be of just me playing my guitar and singing songs — no overdubs, no effects, no rehearsals, no fancy equipment, and…no audience / but that’s why I have you! i’m going to call it “dKOTA – live with coffee and wine in an apartment” / there’s no need for metaphors for this one // i’ll work on it over the coming weeks, recording as i see fit, and in the key of my mood of the moment / and of course, with coffee or wine, depending on when i find myself behind the microphone / i’ll play old and new songs, traversing what i’ve realized is about 10 years of songwriting

when it’s all packaged and ready i’ll post it up here for audio download (and maybe even iTunes and Amazon) as an “official” release / each song will also have a video component as you see below / there’s probably no need to share all the videos, but i’ll post a few here and on the dKOTA YouTube channel
