dKOTA is music from Portland, Oregon that explores expansiveness, dynamics, the unexpected, articulate songwriting, and heartfelt lyrical expression. The project is lead by songwriter and vocalist, Dustin Johnsen. Dustin’s songwriting utilizes American roots music as a foundation to layer an amalgam of sonic textures, dissonance and resolve, and intentional rough edges.
Additional musicians on the project have included Matthew Neff (electric guitar), Calon Russell (bass), Kalon Pilmanis (drums), Nicole Berke (vocals and keys), Mary Burger (cello), and others.
There is no studio substitute for the dKOTA live show. dKOTA has played Portland venues such as Mississippi Studios, Doug Fir Lounge, Star Theatre, Kelly’s Olympian, White Eagle Saloon, The Woods, among others. dKOTA looks to expand their performance throughout and beyond the corridors of the Pacific Northwest.
dKOTA released the sophomore album, our analog technology, in late 2014 as a split double-EP, with one part a full-band release and the other a solo acoustic release. The debut album, the self-dyssimilar, was released in 2012. All music can be found HERE, and on iTunes, Amazon, and your other favorite digital download dot, dot, dot coms…
